Uyghur Delegation Conducted Visits in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey

A delegation from World Uyghur Congress and Uygur Academy met with representatives from various parties in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. They presented reports on the Uyghur genocide and sought support. The MPs expressed solidarity with the Uyghurs.

A delegation led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkin Ekrem, President of the World Uyghur Congress, Abdureşit Abdulhamit, President of the World Uyghur Congress Foundation, and Abdulhamit Karahan, President of the Uyghur Academy Foundation, visited representatives of various political parties in the Parliament on October 8-9, 2024.

During their visits, the delegation explained the East Turkestan issue and presented the files prepared on the Uyghur genocide. While the delegation requested support from the MPs, the MPs expressed their support for the Uyghurs.

During the first visit to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on October 8, the delegation met with the Chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Özgür Özel and presented the reports prepared on the Uyghur genocide and demanded support by explaining the East Turkistan issue face to face. The delegation also exchanged ideas with CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır and MP Bilal Bilici.

On the same day, the delegation also had a conversation with Good Party Group Deputy Chairman Buğra Kavuncu and MP Yüksel Selçuk Türkoğlu. They expressed their gratitude on behalf of the Uyghurs for their support for the Uyghur cause, and conveyed their demands that the issue should be kept on the agenda more frequently. “As Good Party, we will of course continue to be the voice of Uyghur Turks, our compatriots under persecution,” Kavuncu said. Türkoğlu, on teh nexet day, explained the Uyghur genocide in the context of Islamophobia at the meeting of the Sub-Committee on Investigation of Human Rights, Islamophobia and Racism of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

On the second day of the visit, the delegation met with Selçuk Özdağ, Group Chairman of the Saadet-Future Party, Doğan Bekin, Deputy Chairman of the Yeniden Refah Party, and Ayyüce Türkeş Taş, MP of the Good Party. The delegation thanked the MPs for their support to the East Turkistan cause and expressed their expectations. Taş said, “We will continue to be the voice of Uyghur Turks and announce it to the whole world.

All the politicians and parliamentarians met expressed their strong support for the Uyghur people. The Uyghur delegation emphasized that the genocide and human rights violations in East Turkistan should be brought to the agenda of the international community and Turkey should take a more active stance on this issue.

Apart from the visits to the Turkish Grand National Assembly, the delegation of the World Uyghur Congress continues to seek political support for the Uyghur issue at the national level by visiting other institutions and stocks in Turkey.
